As the iconic anchor of the Bulfinch Crossing development, One Congress is situated at the convergence of Boston’s premier North End, West End and Financial District neighborhoods. Rising over 600 feet, Pelli Clark Pelli’s dynamic design punctuates the Boston skyline and offers over a million square feet of prime office space.
The facade is divided into four distinct surfaces, defined by sweeping curves in both plan and elevation. The curves in plan are accommodated by facetted glass-clad unitized curtain wall with a single adaptive vertical extrusion design that varies according to the angle. The complex intersections between the various curved surfaces in elevation are designed as three-dimensional unitized curtain wall units. Heintges created custom digital models of each of these complex intersection conditions and engineered optimized reinforcement and unitization strategies accordingly. The ground floor entrance lobby facade consists of an all-glass system with primary vertical support provided by custom all-glass fins and stainless-steel fittings.
Heintges provided building envelope consulting services during all phases of design and construction.
