BUILDING ENVELOPE ARCHITECT / ENGINEER – SAN FRANCISCO Apply
This is an opportunity for an architect or engineer with 3+ years of experience in an architecture or engineering firm. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about building enclosure design and developing custom solutions for new construction and repositioning projects. Our San Francisco office is in-person 4+ days a week to provide an active and engaged environment for design innovation, collaboration, and mentorship.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work closely with senior staff in the development, detailing, and analysis of a variety of facade and waterproofing systems.
- Interface directly with the client, external design team, consultants, and construction teams during all project phases.
- Balance workload requirements for multiple projects simultaneously.
- Analyze envelope performance through modeling.
- Write Specifications.
- Review contractor proposals and shop drawings.
- Assist in construction administration tasks including responding to RFI’s and maintaining project submittal logs.
- Witness laboratory performance testing.
- Perform and report on project site observations and report on field testing.
- Expand firm’s shared knowledge through internal Research & Development.
- Develop office technical resources, such as commonly used details and performance memos.
- Provide mentorship of technical staff.
- Domestic and/or international travel for factory inspections and testing.
- Training will be provided as needed to supplement previous experience to achieve full expertise, concept through construction, and advancement.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
- 3+ years of relevant work experience focused on building enclosure design in a professional architecture or engineering firm, or as an application engineer / derivative designer / facade designer for industry.
- Knowledge of facade design over a range of system types.
- Excellent communication, drawing, writing, and interpersonal skills.
- Design and detail oriented, organized, patient, and flexible.
- Confident communicating through both hand sketches and digital modeling.
- Ability to manage small team (1 – 2 colleagues) in delivery of interim project milestones.
- Interest in working in the field, observing project installation on construction sites.
- Flexibility to travel domestically and internationally.
- Proficient with AutoCAD, Revit, and 3D visualization software.
- Professional degree in Architecture or Engineering.
- Authorization to work in U.S.
Starting salary range: $75,000 – 100,000
